Local author and educator Paul Cummins reads selections from his poetry and prose, including works from Why Poetry? and his latest poetry collection, Under Cover.

Paul Cummins is the President and CEO of New Visions Foundation. Since the Foundation’s inception in 1994, he has been the primary founder of New Roads School, a co-founder of Camino Nuevo Charter Academy, Los Angeles Academy of Arts and Enterprise Charter School, and the New Village Charter High School. He is also the creator of the Center for Educational Opportunity, which places foster children in independent schools, and the founder of Families Helping Families, which redirects low income families into life-changing new directions. In addition, New Visions has instituted an after-school program at Camp Gonzales (a probationary incarceration school) to redirect and relocate juvenile students.  Prior to New Visions, Dr. Cummins was the primary founder and headmaster of Crossroads School and founder of P.S. Arts. He is the author of several books, most recently Two Americas, Two Educations, Funding Quality Schools for All Students and Why Poetry? Reflections on Poetry Writing and Culture, Proceed With Passion, his latest book of essays Love & Squalor, and his current book of poetry, Under Cover. Paul and his wife, Mary Ann, live in Santa Monica and are the parents of four daughters, two grandsons and one granddaughter.

Tickets are free but space is limited and reservations are required. If you would like to attend, please reserve online. Please plan to arrive by 6:15pm to retain your reservation. Directions: The Beach House is located at 415 Pacific Coast Highway, Santa Monica, CA 90402 on the west side of Pacific Coast Highway, a half mile north of the California Incline and a half mile south of Chautauqua Blvd. Plenty of public parking is available - enter off PCH at the Beach House Way traffic light. The facility is easily accessible by foot or bike from the beach bike path, although the Beach closes at sunset. There is ample bike parking at racks throughout the site - remember to bring your own lock.

Parking: For weekday Beach=Culture events after 5pm through April, there is a flat $5 parking charge at the park and pay machines available in three areas of the ACBH parking lot. Please display your receipt in your vehicle. For daytime and weekend fees, please check the website for details.

Beach=Culture at the Beach House

Welcome to Beach=Culture, a year-round series of free arts and culture events at the the Annenberg Community Beach House. We look forward to seeing you!

Please note that there is bike parking available onsite - bring a lock. Car parking is available and rates vary from weekdays to weekends and season to season.

Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the event; reservations are released then and late seating is not guaranteed. Although Eventbrite's automatic email encourages you to print your ticket out, at this time we only require you to give your last name at the door. If an event is at capacity, we will generally open a waitlist online and you can sign up. We will not contact you; just plan to arrive by 15 minutes prior to the event and we will assess unclaimed reservations.
